Students Guidelines - Exams and Grades

These guidelines are important to consider:

1. Grading determinants:

Final grades must be submitted within ONE WEEK after the final exam by the Professor. Along with the final grades, professors must also submit student's final exams or project. If a student has been given an extension beyond the terms dates of the module, the professor must submit a grade of "Incomplete" (I) for the student at the time of grade submission. Note: an extension must be given only on extraordinary circumstances, and must not go beyond the length of the next module. By this time, if student has not completed their necessary work, student will receive a grade of "Failure" (F) from the grades.
Final grades will be based on a combination of final and midterm exams, homework, classroom quizzes, research projects, essays, classroom presentations, and class participation (including class attendance).
Students must take a final exam or turn in a final project before they can receive a final grade.

2. UBIS Grading System is based on US grading system. Grading for Undergraduate is as follows:

Outstanding: A, A-, B+ (87-100%)
Good: B, B-, C+ (77-86%)
Satisfactory: C, C-, D+ (67-76%)
Poor: D (60-66%)
Failure: F (0-59%)

Note: the percentage column above is applicable only to quantitatively evaluated work. Student's work that is evaluated qualitatevely is left to the discretion of the instructor. Professors are free to use any curve they deem appropriate.

Withdrawal/Failure: W/F
Incomplete: I
Transfer Credits: TC
Repeat of a Course: R
Pass/Fail: P/F
Audit of a Course: AUD
Academic Standing - Dean's List : KL
Probation: P
Terminal Probation: TP

4. Test Scheduling and General Guidelines for Undergraduate Courses

Professsors teaching undergraduate courses should plan to include a midterm and final exam. Quizzes can be scheduled according to the Professor's individual needs. Final assignments projects may be substituted for the final exam. All reports and case analysis must be typed. Hand-written assignments are not accepted.

6. Make-up Exams

All courses have a final examination, research paper or project. Student who do not take the final examination or submit the required assignment will not receive credit for the course.
Students absent with a valid reason from a final examination will receive an "I" (incomplete grade). If  a missed final examination is successfully retaken within the first two weeks of the following term, the grade "I" will be changed to the grade achieved by the student. Student may arrange with the Professor for a make-up exam date and notify Registrar. Registrar will schedule date and inform student. Make-up exam shall respect the stipulated time limit, otherwise the "I" grade will be changed to "F" (Failure).

6. Student Grade Appeal

The University promotes a principle of evenhandedness in all academic decisions. Student may appeal (to the professor) within 30 days of the issuance of the disputed grade. In case no settlement can be reached between the student and the professor, a formal appeal is to be made to the Dean's Office.
