Are you understanding the speaker's words? Do you need to ask questions or paraphrase for clarification?
Are your won filters (e.g. your opinions, biases) interfering?
Listen for Feelings
What feelings are verbally expressed?
What feelings are expressed nonverbally?
What isn't being said that offers clues about the speaker's feelings?
Should you ask the speaker to express or clarify his/her feelings?
Listen for Intent
What does the speaker want to do?
What does the speaker want you to do?
Listen for Context
How does the setting help you understand the message?
How do the speaker's remarks fit into the chronology of his/her life?
How does the speaker's sociocultural backgroun help you understand the message?
1. I think it would be important to understand the words and has question if you don't understand something. You could request the person to paraphrase for better comprehension. It depends on the subject sometimes I could easily have my stand without listening until the end of the sentence of the speaker.
ReplyDelete2. Feelings of enthusiam and content would be shown in the way they speak. They could hide feelings of disagreement or negative feelings if needed. Sometimes the body language of the person could give out clues on the feelings of the person. I think asking the person is not polite as this could put them in an embarassing state.
